The Utah Filmmakers™ Facebook group—created by UFA™ Board Member Ben Hawker in 2007—is the Official Forum of the Utah Filmmakers™ Association, utilized to bridge the local film community with Utah’s film industry.
While the organization has existed separately since 2002, UFA™ membership is automatically granted to individuals and organizations with active filmmaking interests in the state of Utah who share the UFA™'s Vision and Core Values and are committed to supporting its Mission.
| After being invited to help Admin the Facebook group, we have worked to develop it into an effective and thriving platform and promote it as the de facto online forum for mentorship, collaboration, and promotion for professional and novice filmmakers alike. |
A “Utah Filmmaker™” is any filmmaker with direct ties to Utah, including—but not limited to—Producers, Writers, Directors, Actors, Cinematographers, Sound Engineers, Set Designers, Property Masters, Hair & Make-up Artists, Animators, SFX/VFX Artists, Composers and many other technical and creative occupations.
An ongoing* group poll inviting working professionals to share how many years they have been making a living in the film industry has been a real eye-opener. When it comes to collective experience, members of our Facebook group have literally centuries of experience to draw from.
The Facebook group is a primarily self-managed group. New members are invited to answer a few questions and agree to the following rules:
Professionalism is expected in all interactions
This forum serves film industry professionals and community filmmakers, but Professionalism, Integrity, and Respect are expected from everyone. http://values.utahfilmmakers.org
Members are expected to read and follow the rules
Group rules have been implemented with input from filmmaking professionals to benefit those working in the industry and those who strive to do so. Group membership indicates agreement to comply with the rules.
Keep posts on-topic (Film & Filmmaking in Utah)
Do NOT write “Delete if not allowed”—read and follow the rules. If it’s associated with filmmaking—in Utah or in general—in ANY way, indicate HOW it’s film-related in the post. Do not be vague, but be concise.
“Payment” must be at the •TOP• of ALL job posts
Please use our job-posting template at https://tinyurl.com/UFATemplate. As a courtesy to working filmmakers, ONLY class-assigned STUDENT films and competitions that REQUIRE it may ask for “volunteers.”
NOT in production? Do NOT ask for resumes
Only post jobs when ready to hire. NEVER suggest a gig "could lead to future work." Projects NOT CURRENTLY in production, NOT SCHEDULED, or NOT FUNDED are USELESS to those who need work NOW.
Members may introduce themselves with resumes/links with #shamelessplug and/or #networking
Sharing community events
Public (film-related) Facebook events shared in the group are AUTOMATICALLY featured. Members are encouraged to create group events—in person and/or online—and invite others to participate.

Member responsibilities
Members can approve new requests to join. Prospective members MUST answer the screener questions appropriately and AGREE to the group rules.
Please report posts/comments that are off-topic, violate group rules, or "raise concerns" to an admin/moderator.
Please share ideas/suggestions with the admins for improving the group. YOU are what makes this group one of the most effective online resources for Utah’s filmmakers.
Talk about problems and solutions, NOT people
When discussing unprofessional, unethical, or illegal behavior or business practices and how to resolve them, please do so in GENERAL terms. Those responsible should be reported to the proper authorities—not “outed” in the group. Unless sharing public information, grievances identifying people or companies by name may be deleted.
No harassment, hate speech, or bullying
Safety should be a priority on every film set. Feeling safe is just as important in this forum. Bullying, hostility, intimidation, trolling, profanity, and degrading posts/comments, especially regarding race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, or identity, is unprofessional and will not be tolerated.
Please think before you write
Need work and experience? Ask for a job! Do NOT "volunteer" or ask to “shadow.”
Not sure if it's against the rules? Read the rules.
If you're not sure of the answer to someone’s question, leave it to the professionals. No advice is better than bad advice.
